Wirksworth has held a weekly market since being granted the Market Town Charter by Edward I in 1306. It is held weekly, on Tuesdays, in the steep market place (some say it is the steepest market place in Britain), so watch your step.

It used to be held in the part of town which is now the through-road, Harrison Drive, but this was blasted through to allow the increasing motor traffic an easier and safer way than along narrow North End.

On Tuesdays there is a range of produce available. Fresh vegetables and bread, fish, meat, plants are all available.
