Wirksworth is now using its twinning network to build on existing links with France and Germany to develop friendship with the town of Varallo in Northern Italy. A delegation of Wirksworth people travelled to Varallo in April and were hosted for 3 nights as part of a wider international celebration of twinning. In early July a group of Italian, French and German young people took part in an international youth conference which also included Anthony Gell students. They were hosted by Mount Cook Centre on Porter Lane, Middleton. Co- chair of twinning Judie Taylor said: ‘We were delighted to support the conference which brings together young people from Wirksworth and our twin towns in Germany and France and we were really thrilled that we were also able to welcome young people from Varallo in Italy.’
During the visit to Italy, Wirksworth delegates experienced the stunning scenery and marvellous architecture of the Piedmont region and used the occasion to catch up with friends from the existing twinning partnerships with Die (in France) and Frankenau (Germany) who also attended the gathering.
