Energy & Housing Group (in Transition Wirksworth)

A Wirksworth house with solar panels

We explore local ways to use less fossil fuel energy and more renewable energy, and have carried out a survey of local energy use which raised awareness and provided information. We are helping Antony Gell School reduce energy use.

We have recently gained charitable status, through the Charity Commission, for the Wirksworth Transition Community Land Trust (WTCLT) which is now identified as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) charity number 1178158.

The WTCLT will enable us to provide zero carbon affordable housing, built to PassivHaus standards, for the Wirksworth and Middleton by Wirksworth communities which will remain, in perpetuity, in community ownership. We are currently identifying land upon which to build, and funding sources. During the second half of 2018 we will be holding a public meeting in town to explain plans further.

Meanwhile those interested in gaining membership to WTCLT may do so for the princely sum of £1. For more about the WTCLT, click here.
