A voice for patients
The Hannage Brook Patient Participation Group (PPG) was formally constituted in September 2012. It works closely with the medical centre to give patients a voice in its organisation and establishing its priorities. Wirksworth is fortunate in that it has a medical practice committed to making sure its patients are involved in decisions about the range and quality of services on offer. It is important that patients play a part in developing this partnership.
The group is active in keeping abreast of NHS developments by liaising with the local SOS NHS group and the SDCCG (South Derbyshire Care Commissioning Group).
The committee organises about three evening meetings a year on a range of topics the more recent of which have included Clinical Research, Help yourself to good health, Dementia Friends and Music for Health. In addition the PPG worked hard to petition the SDCCG to save the funding for minor injuries (Spring 2016) along with helping at Flu clinics, premises audits, supporting Hannage Brook initiatives, such as “Last orders”, “Under 5s “ “ Men’s health event” as well as being closely involved with the inspection. There are many more events and evenings planned.
A number of successful support groups have arisen from the PPG-:
AF (arterial fibrillation), Diabetes, WISH (mental health) and Doing more for Dementia in Wirksworth.
Membership is very straightforward either “virtual” through email /post and/or by actively attending our meetings. Information gained through patient feedback is very important for the continued success of the practice. So do join us, have your say, learn more about important health matters and behind the scenes at HBMC!
