Wirksworth & District Christian Aid Group
Our local Christian Aid Group supports Christian Aid nationally in both fund-raising for emergency aid and longer term development projects in poor communities across the world; and in Campaigning for Justice. Current campaigns are for Climate Justice and for Tax Justice – helping to ensure that big multi-national companies pay their fair share of taxes in the poor countries in which they operate.
Christian Aid has its origins in the European refugee crisis after the Second World War and has been working ever since to combat poverty, relieve suffering and promote justice. Christian Aid is unique in distributing aid through locally based agencies which are closer to the people it seeks to help. The local group organises a number of fund-raising activities throughout the year. Our major fund-raiser occurs in Christian Aid Week when we conduct a house-to-house collection in Wirksworth and the surrounding villages. Most collectors are members of one of the churches in the area, but we welcome support from anyone who is in sympathy with Christian Aid.
The local group operates informally, and welcomes anyone who is interested and wants to find out more. We meet four times a year. Working groups are set up to accomplish specific tasks. Contact: Jill Rhodes (secretary) phone: 01629 823623 email: firstname.lastname@example.org
