Haarlem Artspace’s Fieldwork – exhibtion and film for two weekends of the Wirksworth Festival

Following on from the site-specific performances held on 24 August at an outdoor space, Haarlem Artspace presents an exhibition and film of the event for the Wirksworth Festival. It can be viewed at Haarlem Artspace from 10 am to 4pm on the weekends of 7th & 8th and 14th & 15th of September.

Local filmmaker, Gavin Repton has created an abstract film from the three performances which is being shown during the Wirksworth Festival, accompanied by an exhibition of performance materials that borrow from the conventions of museum display.

The performances include: Fourthland’s Moon Scroll, a performance piece inspired by the etymology of the word ‘display’, meaning ‘to unravel / unfold’ and summoning a deep listening to the voices of nature and our ancestors; David Steans devised a brand new site-specific performance involving fiction, narrative and costume blurring the lines between fiction and reality; Tazelaar Stevenson & Michael Page delivered a performance combining analogue electronics and bird song in dialogue – they set up at 3am that morning to play and record their performance, using microphones, hand-built synthesisers and effects to respond to and become part of the dawn chorus.
