Wirksworth’s Well Dressing and Carnival are every year at Whitsun/ Spring Bank Holiday.

Well Dressing is a unique Peak District tradition, where Wells are decorated with natural materials to create fantastic designs, as in the photo. Each year Wirksworth hosts a weekend of entertainment in support of the Well Dressings, aiming to unite the community and visitors.

After the Wells are erected around the town, they are blessed in a service conducted around each Well and a small procession which includes the Carnival Royalty and Mayor of the town. The blessings symbolise the beginning of the celebrations and conclude with a Carnival at the end of the week. The Carnival weekend runs in support of the Well Dressings and includes music, entertainment and a fantastic town parade.
