Mercia was born out of a shared family passion with three simple ideas at its core; high quality local produce, wholesome food and great service.
You’ll find us in Wirksworth, a small creative town nestled in Derbyshire’s beautiful Peak District, we serve a variety of high quality, nourishing, home cooked food all made fresh to order by our devoted chefs. We only work with local suppliers, (within a 30 mile radius of Wirksworth).
An ethos that is very close to our hearts, supporting local British farmers and growers who grow and rear only the finest produce, delivered straight to your table, whether it be the freshest salad leaves from our grower in nearby Kniveton, or high quality meats from our friends up at the Pig’s Tale farm near Belper, we make it a conscious decision to work with local suppliers.
Our décor is eclectic and diverse yet nostalgic and welcoming, with paintings from local artists, decorative antique brass lights, sat alongside 60’s modernist drop pendents and large wooden tables as well as pottery from local ceramicists, rustic quarry stone tiles and our fully functioning black lead range fire.
We’re open Tuesday – Saturday from 9:00am – 10:30pm and Sundays 10:00 – 16:00, available for brunch, lunch, dinner or drinks.
Come and experience our ambient ground foor restaurant, enjoy a cocktail in our ‘secret bar’ hidden away upstairs, or watch the world go by on our outide terrace area with one of our carefully chosen world wines or local Thornbridge ales.
The Name Mercia
Originally a pagan realm, Mercia was one of the six kingdoms in Anglo Saxon Times. This area was centred on the valley of the River Trent and its tributaries, in the region now known as The English Midlands.
